Radiesse in Lansing, MI

Lift Without Surgery
Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) at Maison Zolara delivers immediate volume and triggers your skin's own collagen production — a dual-action biostimulator filler performed by our licensed RN clinicians under MD supervision in west Lansing.

Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) is one of the most clinically studied biostimulator fillers available today. Unlike traditional hyaluronic acid fillers that simply add volume, Radiesse works on two levels: it provides immediate structural lift while its calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres stimulate your body's natural collagen and elastin production over the months that follow. The result is a gradual, natural-looking improvement that continues well after the initial treatment.

At Maison Zolara — located at 4820 W Saginaw Hwy in west Lansing — our licensed registered nurse (RN) clinicians perform every Radiesse treatment under the clinical oversight of our on-staff Medical Director. Whether you're coming from Okemos, Holt, or DeWitt, you'll receive a thorough consultation before any treatment is planned.

How It Works

All treatments at Maison Zolara are performed by licensed RN clinicians under physician oversight.

Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) is a dermal filler composed of calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. When injected, the gel carrier provides immediate volume correction. Over the following weeks and months, the CaHA microspheres act as a scaffold that attracts fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing collagen and elastin — stimulating new tissue formation in the treated area.

According to a 2023 case series published in Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology by researchers at Tandfonline, hyperdiluted calcium hydroxylapatite promotes neocollagenesis, neoelastinogenesis, fibroblast proliferation, and angiogenesis, leading to long-term improvements in skin quality and elasticity.

Clinical finding: Histological studies have confirmed up to a 160% increase in types I and III collagen following calcium hydroxylapatite treatment, with effects continuing beyond the period of visible correction.

The gel carrier is gradually absorbed by the body, leaving behind a collagen-rich matrix. This is what distinguishes Radiesse from purely volumizing fillers — the biostimulatory effect means results can continue to improve for several months after treatment.

Immediate Volume

The gel carrier provides structural lift and volume correction from the very first session, smoothing deep folds and restoring facial contours right away.

Collagen Stimulation

CaHA microspheres act as a scaffold for fibroblast activity, triggering neocollagenesis and neoelastinogenesis that builds natural tissue over time.

Long-Lasting Results

Clinical studies report results lasting 12–18 months or longer, with some patients experiencing ongoing skin quality improvements beyond the correction window.

Hyperdilute Protocol

When diluted with saline or lidocaine, Radiesse can be used as a skin-quality biostimulator across larger areas — neck, décolletage, and body — for diffuse rejuvenation rather than focal volume.

What It Treats

Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) is best suited for areas where deeper volume loss is the primary concern. Its structural properties make it ideal for restoring facial architecture and treating skin laxity in areas with thicker tissue. It is not recommended for delicate areas such as the lips or under-eye hollows, where the risk of nodule formation is higher and where softer, more flexible hyaluronic acid fillers are the preferred option.

Cheeks & Midface

Restores volume to flattened cheeks and the midface, lifting the lower face and softening nasolabial folds by addressing the underlying structural deficit.

Jawline Definition

Adds projection and definition to a softened jawline, improving facial contour without surgery. Particularly effective for patients experiencing early jowling.

Nasolabial Folds

One of the original FDA-approved indications for Radiesse — smoothing the deep folds that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Marionette Lines

Addresses the vertical lines that run from the corners of the mouth downward, restoring a more rested and lifted appearance.

Hands

FDA-cleared for hand rejuvenation. Restores volume to the backs of the hands, reducing the appearance of prominent tendons and veins associated with age-related volume loss.

Hyperdilute Body

When used in a diluted protocol, Radiesse can improve skin quality, laxity, and texture across the neck, décolletage, and body — areas where traditional fillers are not typically used.

The Biostimulator Difference

Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) belongs to a distinct category of injectable treatments called biostimulators — products that do more than fill space. Understanding what makes it unique helps patients make informed decisions about which treatment is right for their goals.

What It's Made Of

Radiesse contains calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres (25–45 microns in diameter) suspended in a sterile aqueous gel of sodium carboxymethylcellulose. Calcium hydroxylapatite is a mineral naturally found in human bone and teeth, making it highly biocompatible.

FDA Clearance

Radiesse received FDA Pre-Market Approval (PMA P050052) in December 2006 for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds. It is also FDA-cleared for hand augmentation to correct volume loss.

Biocompatibility

Because CaHA is a naturally occurring mineral, it does not require allergy testing prior to treatment. The microspheres are gradually metabolized by the body over time, leaving behind the collagen matrix they helped create.

Hyperdilute Protocols

Diluting Radiesse with saline (commonly 1 or 1 ratios) reduces its viscosity, allowing it to be spread across larger surface areas for skin-quality improvement rather than focal volume. This technique has expanded its use to the neck, décolletage, and body.

Tip

Clinical bottom line: According to a 2024 systematic review published in PubMed (PMID 38390986), diluted and hyperdiluted calcium hydroxylapatite demonstrates a good safety profile in clinical practice for body applications, with evidence supporting neocollagenesis and skin quality improvement.

Alternatives

Radiesse is an excellent choice for many patients, but it is not the right fit for everyone. Understanding how it compares to other options helps set realistic expectations and ensures the best treatment plan for your goals.

The table below provides a neutral comparison of the three main injectable categories available at Maison Zolara and how they differ from Radiesse.

Sculptra is an alternative biostimulatory filler made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It works more gradually than Radiesse — results build over several months across multiple sessions — and is particularly well-suited for patients seeking diffuse, long-term volume restoration rather than immediate correction. Sculptra is covered on its own dedicated page at Maison Zolara.

HA dermal fillers (such as the RHA Collection) use hyaluronic acid to provide immediate, reversible volume. They are the preferred choice for delicate areas like the lips and under-eye, and for patients who want the option to dissolve the filler if needed.

Our licensed RN clinicians will discuss which option — or combination of options — best matches your anatomy and goals during your free consultation.

Safety & Risks

Radiesse has a well-established safety record across more than 15 years of clinical use. Like all injectable treatments, it carries risks that every patient should understand before proceeding.

Common side effects (typically resolve within 1–2 weeks):

  • Swelling, redness, and bruising at injection sites
  • Tenderness or firmness in the treated area
  • Temporary asymmetry as swelling resolves

Less common risks:

  • Nodule or lump formation — most commonly associated with superficial placement or injection into high-movement areas such as the lips. This is why Radiesse is not used in the lips at Maison Zolara. Proper deep-plane injection technique by trained clinicians significantly reduces this risk, as supported by published case literature.
  • Infection (rare, managed with standard aseptic technique)
  • Vascular occlusion (rare but serious — requires immediate treatment)

Radiesse cannot be dissolved. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, there is no reversal agent for calcium hydroxylapatite. This makes proper patient selection, conservative dosing, and expert injection technique especially important. Our licensed RN clinicians are trained in facial anatomy and vascular safety protocols.

Warning

Important safety note: Radiesse should only be injected by trained, licensed clinicians using proper deep-plane technique. Superficial injection — particularly in the lips or perioral area — significantly increases the risk of nodule formation. Maison Zolara does not use Radiesse in the lips; hyaluronic acid fillers are the appropriate choice for lip augmentation.

All treatments at Maison Zolara are performed under the clinical oversight of our on-staff Medical Director, with vascular emergency protocols in place.

What to Expect

Here is a clear picture of the Radiesse treatment journey at Maison Zolara, from your first consultation through your follow-up.

1

Before Your Treatment

Your journey begins with a free consultation with one of our licensed RN clinicians. We review your medical history, discuss your aesthetic goals, and assess your facial anatomy to determine whether Radiesse is the right option for you. We'll explain realistic outcomes, the number of syringes likely needed, and answer every question you have — including concerns about downtime, discomfort, and what the results will look like. No treatment is performed at the consultation unless you choose to proceed.

2

During Treatment

Radiesse is injected using a fine needle or cannula, depending on the treatment area. Most formulations include lidocaine (Radiesse+) for added comfort. A typical facial treatment takes 30–45 minutes. You may feel mild pressure or a brief stinging sensation during injection. Our clinicians work methodically and conservatively, building results gradually and checking symmetry throughout the session.

3

After Treatment

Expect mild swelling, redness, and possible bruising for 3–7 days. You can return to most normal activities the same day. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat (saunas, hot yoga) for 24–48 hours. Avoid facial massage or pressure on treated areas for at least two weeks. Results are visible immediately and continue to improve over 4–8 weeks as collagen production builds. A follow-up appointment is recommended at 4–6 weeks to assess results and determine whether a touch-up is appropriate.

Aftercare

Proper aftercare protects your investment and minimizes the risk of complications. The following guidelines apply to the first two weeks after treatment.

Your consultation is always free. We will provide a clear treatment plan and cost estimate before any treatment begins — no pressure, no surprises.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Radiesse is an excellent option for many adults experiencing volume loss and skin laxity, but it is not right for everyone. The following guide will help you understand whether it may be appropriate for you.

The best candidates share a few key characteristics: they have deeper volume loss rather than fine surface lines, they are comfortable with a non-reversible treatment, and they have realistic expectations about gradual improvement alongside immediate results.

A free consultation with our licensed RN clinicians will help determine whether Radiesse, Sculptra, an HA filler, or a combination approach is the right path for your goals. Starting price is From $599/syringe; Maison Circle members start From $529/syringe.
