"How many sessions will I need?" is one of the most common questions we hear about microneedling — and one of the hardest to answer in a single number. The right plan depends on what you're treating, your skin's response, and the technology being used.
What microneedling actually does
Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels in the skin to trigger your body's natural healing response — primarily new collagen and elastin. Radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, like Candela Matrix™ RF, adds heat energy at a controlled depth, which is why it's often considered for skin tightening, acne scarring, and texture refinement.
Typical ranges providers discuss
These are general patterns — not a prescription. Your provider will personalize them.
- General skin quality, texture, fine lines: often a series of three sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart.
- Acne scarring: typically three to six sessions, depending on scar depth and skin response.
- Skin tightening / mild laxity: usually three to four sessions, with continued collagen remodeling for three to six months afterward.
- Maintenance: many clients add a single session once or twice a year after their initial series.
What drives the number up — or down
Skin type, age, the depth of the concern (a fine line vs. a deeper scar), sun history, and how consistently you support results between visits all influence the plan. Two clients with the "same" concern can have meaningfully different timelines.
How we plan it at Maison Zolara
We don't sell packages before we see your skin. Every plan begins with a consultation so the provider can assess your concerns directly and recommend a starting series — with the option to reassess at the midpoint. Treatments are RN-administered under direct MD supervision in our Lansing studio.
If you're weighing microneedling for acne scarring, texture, or tightening, the most useful next step is a short in-person consultation — or our online Skin Analysis if you'd rather start from home.
