Losing a significant amount of weight is an achievement — but the skin doesn't always keep up. Many of our Greater Lansing clients arrive after a weight-loss journey wondering whether anything can be done short of surgery. The honest answer is: it depends on how much laxity is present, where it is, and what your goals are.

Why skin loosens after weight loss

Skin is a living tissue made largely of collagen and elastin. When it stretches over months or years, then contracts quickly, those fibers can lose their ability to "snap back." Age, genetics, sun exposure, and how rapidly the weight came off all play a role. Mild to moderate laxity often responds well to non-surgical options. Severe sagging — particularly with hanging skin — typically falls outside the scope of in-office aesthetic treatments and is best discussed with a board-certified plastic surgeon.

Non-surgical options most providers consider

Radiofrequency (RF) skin tightening — including Candela Matrix™ RF microneedling — uses controlled heat to stimulate new collagen production over a series of sessions. It's most often discussed for the lower face, jawline, neck, abdomen, and arms.

Sublime™ and similar RF platforms work without needles and are typically considered for early or mild laxity.

Combination plans — pairing RF with medical-grade skincare and lifestyle support — are how most real outcomes are built. A single treatment is rarely the answer.

What to expect from a realistic plan

Results from collagen-stimulating treatments are gradual. Most providers describe a series of three to six sessions spaced several weeks apart, with continued improvement over three to six months as new collagen forms. There are no guaranteed outcomes, and expectations should be set in person with a provider who can assess your skin directly.

How we approach it at Maison Zolara

Every client meets with our team for a consultation before any treatment is recommended. Plans are personalized — not pulled from a menu — and built around your concerns, your skin, and your timeline. If a non-surgical approach isn't the right fit, we'll say so.

If you're considering your options in the Lansing area, the easiest place to start is a complimentary consultation or our online Skin Analysis.
