Double Chin Treatment in Lansing, MI

Lift Without Surgery
Non-surgical double chin treatment at Maison Zolara in west Lansing — combining Sublime™ Skin Tightening (RF), HA jawline filler, and PDO Thread Lift options tailored to your anatomy and goals.

A double chin — clinically called submental fullness — is one of the most common aesthetic concerns our licensed registered nurse (RN) clinicians see at Maison Zolara. Whether your under-chin fullness is driven by excess fat, skin laxity, or a combination of both, the right treatment approach depends on an accurate assessment of the root cause. That's why every double chin treatment journey at our west Lansing medspa begins with a complimentary consultation.

According to a survey cited by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, as many as 68 percent of people are bothered by submental fullness — making it just as common a concern as lines and wrinkles around the eyes.

How It Works

Licensed RN clinicians at Maison Zolara performing a treatment
All treatments at Maison Zolara are performed by licensed RN clinicians under physician oversight.

The submental area — the space beneath the chin — can accumulate fat, lose skin elasticity, or both, depending on your genetics, age, and body composition. Understanding which factor is driving your double chin is the first step toward choosing the right treatment.

Excess submental fat tends to feel soft and pliable when you pinch the area. It often has a genetic component: research indicates that genetics dictate where the body preferentially stores subcutaneous fat, and for many people the submental space acts as a genetically designated depot — meaning it may hold onto fat even when overall body weight is stable.

Skin laxity presents differently — the skin beneath the chin feels loose or droopy rather than full, and often becomes more noticeable with age as collagen and elastin production naturally decline. The platysma muscle (the broad, flat muscle running from the chest to the jaw) also weakens over time, contributing to a less defined jawline.

Both factors together are extremely common, particularly in patients over 35 or following significant weight changes. In these cases, a combination approach — addressing fat and tightening the overlying skin — typically produces the most satisfying outcome.

Our licensed RN clinicians assess all three scenarios during your consultation and recommend a treatment plan matched to your specific anatomy.

What It Treats

Submental Fat

Localized fat deposits beneath the chin that persist despite diet and exercise, often with a strong genetic component. RF skin tightening and energy-based treatments can address mild-to-moderate fat accumulation while simultaneously tightening the overlying skin.

Skin Laxity

Loose, crepey skin under the chin caused by collagen loss, aging, or weight fluctuation. Sublime™ RF skin tightening is specifically designed to stimulate collagen remodeling and improve tissue firmness in this area.

Undefined Jawline

A soft or poorly defined jawline that makes the chin appear to blend into the neck. HA jawline filler can project and define the chin, creating a visual lift and improving the chin-to-neck angle without surgery.

Combined Fullness

The most common presentation — a mix of submental fat and skin laxity that benefits from a multi-modality approach. Our on-staff Medical Director provides clinical oversight to ensure treatment plans are safe and appropriate for each patient.

Sublime™ Skin Tightening

The primary energy-based device we use for double chin treatment is the Sublime™ Skin Tightening (RF) — part of the Candela eTwo platform. Maison Zolara is an authorized Candela partner, and our licensed RN clinicians are trained directly on this technology.

How Sublime™ Works

Sublime™ combines bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy with infrared light to deliver controlled thermal energy into the deep dermis and subdermal tissue. This dual-energy approach heats collagen fibers, triggering immediate contraction and initiating a longer-term collagen remodeling response that continues for weeks after treatment.

Clinical Mechanism

Peer-reviewed research published in PMC (2025) confirms that radiofrequency technology "not only contracts collagen fibers but also stimulates fibroblast proliferation through thermal damage to the dermis, enhancing collagen synthesis and reorganization" — and can also lead to "partial fat ablation, improving fat accumulation and contouring." ↗

Safe for All Skin Types

Unlike some laser-based treatments, Sublime™ RF is safe across all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI). The infrared and RF energies target tissue depth rather than skin pigment, making it an inclusive option for the diverse patient population we serve across Lansing, Holt, and Okemos.

No Downtime

Sublime™ is a non-ablative treatment. Most patients experience mild warmth and temporary redness that resolves within a few hours. There is no wound healing, no peeling, and no required recovery period — making it easy to fit into a busy schedule.

Device Comparison

Not all non-surgical double chin treatments work the same way. The table below compares the primary approaches available at Maison Zolara so you can understand which modality — or combination — may be right for your anatomy.

Safety & Risks

Non-surgical double chin treatments have well-established safety profiles when performed by qualified clinicians. At Maison Zolara, all medspa treatments are performed by our licensed registered nurse (RN) clinicians under the clinical oversight of our on-staff Medical Director.

Proper patient selection is essential. The following information is provided for educational purposes — individual risk profiles are assessed at consultation.

Sublime™ RF Safety

Common temporary effects include mild redness, warmth, and swelling at the treatment site, typically resolving within hours. Rare effects may include temporary bruising or changes in skin sensation. Sublime™ is not appropriate for patients with active skin infections, certain implanted devices, or during pregnancy. Our RN clinicians conduct a thorough health intake before every treatment.

Filler Safety

HA jawline filler is a reversible treatment — hyaluronic acid can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. Common temporary effects include swelling, bruising, and tenderness at injection sites. Rare but serious risks include vascular occlusion; our licensed RN clinicians are trained in recognition and management of injection complications.

PDO Thread Safety

PDO threads are made from the same absorbable suture material used in surgery. Temporary effects include swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort. Rare risks include thread migration or puckering. Results typically last 12–18 months as threads dissolve and stimulate collagen.

Warning

Important: Non-surgical treatments are not appropriate for all patients. Individuals with significant submental fat or severe skin laxity may be better served by surgical consultation. Our team will always provide an honest assessment and refer appropriately when a non-surgical approach is unlikely to meet your goals.

Alternatives

Understanding the full spectrum of double chin treatment options helps you make an informed decision. The approaches below represent the broader landscape — our team discusses all relevant options at consultation.

Maison Zolara also offers HA jawline/chin filler and PDO Thread Lift as standalone or combination treatments for double chin and jawline definition — each with its own dedicated service page.

What to Expect

1

Before Your Treatment

Your journey begins with a complimentary consultation with one of our licensed RN clinicians. We assess your submental anatomy — distinguishing between fat, laxity, or both — review your health history, and discuss realistic outcomes. We'll recommend a treatment plan and confirm pricing before any commitment. Patients traveling from Mason, DeWitt, or Grand Ledge are welcome to schedule a same-day consultation and first treatment.

2

During Treatment

For Sublime™ RF, a smooth handpiece is glided across the submental area in a series of passes. Most patients describe the sensation as warm pressure — similar to a hot stone massage. A typical session takes 20–30 minutes. For HA filler, topical numbing is applied before precise injections along the chin and jawline. PDO thread procedures use local anesthetic for comfort.

3

After Treatment

Sublime™ RF requires no downtime. You may notice mild redness or warmth for a few hours. Collagen remodeling continues for 8–12 weeks after each session, with optimal results typically visible after a series of treatments. For filler, results are immediate with minor swelling resolving within a few days. PDO thread results develop gradually over 4–6 weeks as collagen production increases.

Aftercare

Proper aftercare protects your results and minimizes the risk of side effects. The following guidelines apply to most double chin treatments — your RN clinician will provide personalized instructions at your appointment.

Am I a Good Candidate?

Most adults with mild-to-moderate submental fullness, skin laxity, or an undefined jawline are good candidates for non-surgical double chin treatment. The best way to confirm candidacy is a complimentary consultation with our licensed RN clinicians.
